A technology startup, TurboAppeal, says it has created a computer software that “puts the homeowner in additional control of lowering their property taxes.” For just a flat fee of $29, the company claims that its software could probably lower a homeowner’s property tax bill.
“We have spent the past year building this completely transparent product that places all the needed appeal evidence in the hands of the homeowners for a small fraction of what they would normally pay,” says John Guidos, co-founder and COO of TurboAppeal.
Just around the corner: Computer programs that appeals property taxes
How it works
Homeowners type in their address and TurboAppeal’s “machine-learning algorithm” checks to determine if an appeal is warranted for the current year. It considers an appeal warranted should there be enough evidence, by means of comparable properties, available in the taxing jurisdiction which may potentially lower the homeowner’s property taxes.
After creating an account, the customer has one year (365 days) of access to the comparable properties, official forms and educational resources needed to file appeals.
The service is currently available in Miami-Dade County and a handful of other larger U.S. cities, however the company says it intends to expand in 2017 into an additional 56 counties.
