The truth is, that none of us enjoy going through storms. Whether it’s a hurricane, or a storm in our personal life. Storms are scary. It would be wonderful if all our days were filled with sunshine and blue skies. Those are the kinds of days we want, but it’s the storms in life that teach us lessons and give us strength. We can usually handle the mild annoyances and problems that surface on easy days, but trials can often bring us to the end of our rope. In those times, we realize we’re completely dependent on a higher power to give us wisdom, and to replace our fear with faith for strength to battle the storm.
Lessons From the Storm
In life, there are storms that quickly pass, and there are storms that are so painful, that we find ourselves wondering if we will ever feel real joy again. But when you look back, it was that storm that brought you to where you are, which is often a better place. Joy is simply more joyful when it shows up in a storm. Kindness is more appreciated. What is truly valuable and connected sometimes surfaces most we walk away from those storms. The world tells us we need bigger, newer, and more. But in that moment of true danger of an upcoming storm such as a hurricane, that list of things you thought were important no longer matters. In the storms that shatter life as you know it, what’s valuable becomes crystal clear. None of us are immune from the storms of life. While we don’t know how or when they will hit, we can be prepared, and we can be grateful for the lessons they will teach us and the sunny days to come.
Something to Think About
Most of us think that peace is when the kids are in bed, the house is clean and quiet, and our favorite movie is on at the end of a long day. But that’s not peace; that’s calm. Peace isn’t the absence of difficulty. It’s the presence of faith. Faith that the storm will pass, faith that the answers will come, faith that there will be sunshine at the end of the storm.

Words of Wisdom
Life can give you strength. Strength can come from facing the storms of life, from knowing loss, feeling sadness and heartache, from falling into the depths of grief. You must stand up in the storm. You must face the wind and the cold and the darkness. When the storm blows hard you must stand firm, for it is not trying to knock you down, it is really trying to teach you to be strong.- Joseph M. Marshall
When the storms of life strike, it’s what happens in you that will determine what happens to you. – Jerry Savelle
The eagle had two natural enemies: storms and serpents. He embraced the storm, waiting on the rock for the right thermal current and then using that to carry him higher. While other birds were taking cover, the eagle was soaring. An eagle would never fight against the storms of life. – Karen Kingsbury
So we shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed? – Hunter S. Thompson
