As hurricane season gets underway, Floridians face an elevated potential for major storms during the next six months through Nov. 30. Forecasters predict the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season could have nine to 15 named storms, with four to eight of them becoming hurricanes, and two to four of those becoming major hurricanes with 111 mph winds or better.
Get ready for hurricane season
“With this year’s hurricane season officially starting on June 1 – and many Florida residents still trying to recover from Hurricanes Michael and Irma – our state knows first-hand the kind of devastation that a hurricane leaves in its wake,” says 2019 Florida Realtors President Eric Sain, a Realtor and district sales manager with Illustrated Properties in Palm Beach. “Florida Realtors Disaster Relief Fund was established to help the Realtor family and others in time of disasters not only in Florida but throughout the country. We understand and appreciate the tenacity it takes to rebuild people’s lives and their communities.”
The Florida Realtors Disaster Relief Fund is obtainable to help Realtors, including their real estate employees, Realtor board/associations and their staff, in the event of devastation brought on by a hurricane, tornado or other natural disaster.
“After Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida in 1992, Realtors in Florida wanted to find a way to help,” said Glenn East, current chairman of Florida Realtors Disaster Relief Fund and CEO of the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors. “Florida Realtors wanted to make a difference – not only in the aftermath of that tragedy, but to be able to offer hope and provide assistance in the event of future disasters. And so the Disaster Relief Fund was created.”
“Hurricane Michael caused severe devastation in Bay County and the surrounding areas,” said Florida Realtors CEO Margy Grant. “People immediately needed help – and Realtors responded. The Florida Realtors Disaster Relief Fund is able to mobilize after a storm faster than most aid organizations. Donations can be made to the Fund at any time.”
Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund can be made securely online using a credit card.
If sending a tax-deductible donation by mail, please make the check payable to “Florida Realtors Disaster Fund,” and send it to:
