Millions of Americans are going to be displaying a flag over Memorial Day weekend, and it’s an amazing way for you to show respect. Do you know the proper way to do it?
Helpful Flag Etiquette Advice for Memorial Day
Here are some helpful reminders:
On Memorial Day, the flag needs to be at half-staff until noon; then it needs to be hoisted to the very top of the staff.
It should not touch the ground or the floor.
The stars on the flag should always be up; it’s an indication of distress any time it is hung upside-down.
If you’re suspending the flag vertically, or against a wall, the stars must be to the flag’s own right, and to the left of the person hanging it.
The flag needs to be displayed only between sunrise and sunset; if it’s hung overnight, it needs to be lit up.
