Community is an important thing. A tight knit community can provide connection, companionship, and a sense of security. The only problem is how to stay connected with such a large group of people who have varying schedules.
Community: How to stay connected
There are three main ways to stay up-to-date and in contact with your neighbors using the internet. Through a Facebook page, a HOA website, or NextDoor.com.
A Neighborhood page on Facebook may already exist for your area. If not they are easy to create, and they can be made a closed group for privacy and security.
If you have a home owner’s association they may have a website already devoted to relevant news.
Nextdoor.com is a great website in which you can keep in contact with both people in you zip code and people in your specific neighborhood.
Each option has its own benefits, therefore the one that will work best for your area will vary. A group Facebook page allows for more personalization and personality. While an HOA website is likely to consist strictly of updates and community information. Nextdoor.com allows their users to receive emergency texts and email updates so that you can passively keep an eye on things. Nextdoor.com also allows their community members to categorize their posts for the convince of others.
However, all of these options have the potential to keep your community connected. They can provide residents with security updates, garage sale notices, community events, baby sitting gigs, vendor referrals, and so much more.
If you are not already a part of one of these community connection opportunities, you should check it out! You never know what your neighbors have to say!
