In this holiday season, it feels like emotions are especially high this year. Questions are being posed. Do we celebrate as a family as we have in the past? Do we fly or do we drive? Do we invite all the cousins and extended family as in years past, or do we break with tradition for 2020? Will others honor your feelings and requests, or will you feel pressured to do what others expect?
Celebrate the Season
I would ask that this year we let go of any expectations that we have and celebrate the feelings and wishes of those we love. Covid has disrupted our lives in 2020 and will certainly be hovering over holiday plans. Each part of the country is affected differently, and each person feels different. Let’s not let it disrupt our holiday plans more than needed. Talk to family members to see how they are feeling. What would make them comfortable as we gather together? And if they are not comfortable getting together this year, that’s OK too. Let’s embrace the reason for the season and celebrate in a way that brings joy to all.
Something to Think About
If someone decides to not gather with friends and family members this year, that decision is harder for them than it is you.
Weekly Activity
Take some time this week to reach out to those you might not be able to see this holiday season. Wish them a safe and joyous holiday season.
