As you look around the world, and around your neighborhood, it’s easy to see why so many people say that it’s challenging to have any hope. Inflation is skyrocketing in the United States, driving up the cost of everything from food to fuel, at the fastest rate in more than 40 years. War in Ukraine has many concerned for loved ones and rebuilding. New strains of the virus seem to pop up daily and folks are just tired of it all!
If you focus on what is “not good” it’s almost impossible to have any hope, but what happens when you focus each day on what you have to be grateful for? Jobs are abundant, and high fuel prices have families deciding to spend time together at home. We are cooking more delicious meals at home. We are slowing down in many ways and prioritizing one on one time with those we love. There are more opportunities to serve those in need, and more time to exercise and stay fit. When we remember to look for it – we recognize that every day is filled with hope and reasons to smile.
Leaning Into Hope
Something to Think About
James Allen, in his book As a Man Thinketh says, “We ourselves are makers of ourselves.” What a profound statement. What he is saying is that our thoughts, images, beliefs, and activities help create the person that you become. Our brain absorbs info, and our subconscious does not know the difference between fact and fiction. What you say, how you respond, and what you watch are creating your outlook on life. Make it positive!
Weekly Activity
Now is the time to limit the news to 30 minutes a day or skip the news altogether. If something big happens, someone will tell you, or you will see if on social media. Instead of filling your head with fear and negative images, fill it with hope and images. Watch a comedy with your family and enjoy the laughter. Have a family get-together and enjoy the good health and company of those around you. Now, more than ever, seek out the good and celebrate the successes.
