This week is focused on slowing down in a world which is constantly moving at a fast pace, faster than anybody has experienced previously. We may already know what you are thinking. How will I slow down when there’s so much to get done? Most of us believe that way.
Time to Slow Down
Often, we think that if we are able to just get that next thing done, it is possible to relax and have a break, but as soon as that thing is completed, there are already two or three more matters to attend to. We’ve learned how to jump from one task to another in order to keep up. It’s a crazy merry-go-round pattern that is causing more stress today, than ever before. Starting today, let’s stop a portion of the craziness. Studies have shown that if you will just stop, concentrate on that one thing that needs to be at a time, and do it, that you will begin to feel more in control and calmer. We actually increase our level of stress by being concerned about what needs to be done tomorrow or next week.
Don’t get us wrong. You will still have to do those things, but let’s figure out how to concentrate on the moment. That’s the power of yoga, finding out how to be in the moment. However if you are not yet in the yoga stage of your life, begin by taking things one at a time!
Something to Take Into Consideration
Stress is one of the main reasons for heart attacks, as along with many auto-immune disorders which slow us down. So ironically, if you don’t slow down on your own, your body could eventually slow you down. Based on that, we ought to all be motivated to consider ways to slow down and decrease our stress, right? Not tomorrow, not when we have more time, not when we get caught up, but NOW.
Weekly Challenge
This week slow down your mind as well as your actions. While driving on the expressway, drive in the right lane and drive the speed limit. Listen to a good audiobook when driving. When saying goodnight to your family and loved ones, take just a little longer to appreciate their company and listen as they share their day with you. Let them have 100% of your attention at that moment. Create a no-tech policy during meals and talk to those at the table. Turn off your phone a minumum of one hour daily or when working on a project. At work, try taking some extra time to concentrate on the task at hand, and don’t concern yourself with anything else. Your satisfaction and production will skyrocket and you’ll see immediate results in all areas of your life.
